Retrospektivn\u00ed v\u00fdstava k nedo\u017eit\u00fdm 80. narozenin\u00e1m fotografa a ob\u010dansk\u00e9ho aktivisty Tom\u00e1\u0161e Rimpela (1946\u20132024). Autor po emigraci v roce 1968 str\u00e1vil velkou \u010d\u00e1st \u017eivota v N\u011bmecku, kde se m.j. v\u011bnoval i foto\u017eurnalistice. Po n\u00e1vratu v roce 2011 se stal v\u00fdrazn\u00fdm dokument\u00e1torem i aktivn\u00edm \u00fa\u010dastn\u00edkem \u010desk\u00e9ho ob\u010dansk\u00e9ho d\u011bn\u00ed. Jeho fotografie jsou osobn\u00edm sv\u011bdectv\u00edm o spole\u010dnosti a dob\u011b \u2013 bezprost\u0159edn\u00edm vizu\u00e1ln\u00edm den\u00edkem \u010dlov\u011bka, kter\u00fd nikdy nest\u00e1l stranou.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A retrospective exhibition marking what would have been the 80th birthday of photographer and civic activist Tom\u00e1\u0161 Rimpel (1946\u20132024). After emigrating in 1968, Rimpel spent a large part of his life in Germany, where, among other things, he worked in photojournalism. Following his return to the Czech Republic in 2011, he became a distinctive chronicler of, as well as an active participant in, Czech civic life. His photographs offer a deeply personal testimony to society and the times he lived through \u2014 an immediate visual diary of a man who never stood on the sidelines.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

V\u00edce ne\u017e dv\u011b stovky vystaven\u00fdch fotografi\u00ed vytv\u00e1\u0159ej\u00ed mnohovrstevnat\u00fd obraz \u017eivota \u010dlov\u011bka, kter\u00fd fotografii nech\u00e1pal pouze jako estetick\u00e9 m\u00e9dium, ale p\u0159edev\u0161\u00edm jako prost\u0159edek pam\u011bti, osobn\u00edho sv\u011bdectv\u00ed a ob\u010dansk\u00e9 \u00fa\u010dasti. Rimpel\u016fv archiv je z\u00e1rove\u0148 sv\u00e9bytnou kronikou \u010desk\u00e9 spole\u010dnosti. Jeho pozornost p\u0159irozen\u011b sm\u011b\u0159ovala tam, kde se n\u011bco d\u011blo \u2013 do ve\u0159ejn\u00e9ho prostoru, na demonstrace a ob\u010dansk\u00e1 shrom\u00e1\u017ed\u011bn\u00ed, ale tak\u00e9 do prost\u0159ed\u00ed kultury, um\u011bn\u00ed a m\u00edst spojen\u00fdch s historickou pam\u011bt\u00ed. V\u00fdraznou \u010d\u00e1st jeho pozdn\u00ed tvorby p\u0159edstavuje dokumentace ob\u010dansk\u00e9ho aktivismu. Rimpel nebyl nez\u00fa\u010dastn\u011bn\u00fdm pozorovatelem stoj\u00edc\u00edm za objektivem. Demonstrace a shrom\u00e1\u017ed\u011bn\u00ed, v\u010detn\u011b akc\u00ed v r\u00e1mci aktivistick\u00fdch spolk\u016f Milionu chvilek pro demokracii \u010di KAPUTIN a dal\u0161\u00edch ob\u010dansk\u00fdch iniciativ, fotografoval jako jejich p\u0159\u00edm\u00fd \u00fa\u010dastn\u00edk. Fotoapar\u00e1t pro n\u011bj byl prost\u0159edkem osobn\u00edho postoje a zp\u016fsobem, jak uchov\u00e1vat atmosf\u00e9ru okam\u017eiku, tv\u00e1\u0159e a gesta lid\u00ed, z nich\u017e se skl\u00e1d\u00e1 ve\u0159ejn\u00fd \u017eivot spole\u010dnosti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

D\u016fle\u017eitou lini\u00ed v\u00fdstavy je historick\u00e1 a spole\u010densk\u00e1 pam\u011b\u0165. Rimpel se opakovan\u011b vracel k ud\u00e1lostem a m\u00edst\u016fm, kter\u00e1 propojuj\u00ed minulost se sou\u010dasnost\u00ed, pota\u017emo budoucnost\u00ed. Pat\u0159\u00ed sem mj. fotografie z Pam\u00e1tn\u00edku ticha a z akce Bubnov\u00e1n\u00ed pro Bubny, p\u0159ipom\u00ednaj\u00edc\u00ed deportace pra\u017esk\u00fdch \u017did\u016f a tragickou zku\u0161enost holokaustu. Nezaj\u00edmal ho pouze samotn\u00fd akt p\u0159ipom\u00edn\u00e1n\u00ed, ale p\u0159edev\u0161\u00edm lid\u00e9, kte\u0159\u00ed pam\u011b\u0165 znovu uv\u00e1d\u011bj\u00ed do p\u0159\u00edtomnosti. Nem\u00e9n\u011b podstatn\u00fdm t\u00e9matem jeho fotografick\u00e9ho sv\u011bta byla kultura a um\u011bn\u00ed. Fotografoval v\u00fdstavy, kulturn\u00ed ud\u00e1losti, osobnosti i p\u0159\u00e1tele a vytv\u00e1\u0159el tak rozs\u00e1hlou obrazovou s\u00ed\u0165 prost\u0159ed\u00ed, jeho\u017e byl s\u00e1m sou\u010d\u00e1st\u00ed. Vedle \u201evelk\u00fdch\u201c spole\u010densk\u00fdch ud\u00e1lost\u00ed jej p\u0159itahovaly i nen\u00e1padn\u00e9 okam\u017eiky ka\u017edodennosti. Pr\u00e1v\u011b jejich propojen\u00edm vznik\u00e1 charakteristick\u00fd Rimpel\u016fv vizu\u00e1ln\u00ed den\u00edk \u2013 bezprost\u0159edn\u00ed, osobn\u00ed a \u010dasto velmi spont\u00e1nn\u00ed. V\u00fdstava sleduje tak\u00e9 jeho vlastn\u00ed \u017eivotn\u00ed cestu. Ve foyer galerie jsou p\u0159edstaveny fotografie z rodinn\u00e9ho alba, kter\u00e9 otev\u00edraj\u00ed intimn\u011bj\u0161\u00ed rovinu p\u0159\u00edb\u011bhu. U vstupu do hlavn\u00edho s\u00e1lu pak n\u00e1v\u0161t\u011bvn\u00edka prov\u00e1zej\u00ed cestovatelsk\u00e9 fotografie ze 70. a 80. let minul\u00e9ho stolet\u00ed a fotografie \u010ceskoslovenska a \u010ceska z obdob\u00ed po roce 1989. Objevuj\u00ed se zde z\u00e1b\u011bry zachycuj\u00edc\u00ed d\u011bjinn\u00e9 zlomy i mimo\u0159\u00e1dn\u00e9 okam\u017eiky \u2013 od revolu\u010dn\u00edch ud\u00e1lost\u00ed a\u017e po povodn\u011b roku 2002. Rimpel, kter\u00fd po emigraci v roce 1968 str\u00e1vil velkou \u010d\u00e1st \u017eivota v N\u011bmecku a v\u011bnoval se zde mimo jin\u00e9 foto\u017eurnalistice, se po n\u00e1vratu do Prahy v roce 2011 znovu intenzivn\u011b zapojil do \u010desk\u00e9ho kulturn\u00edho a ob\u010dansk\u00e9ho \u017eivota. Jeho fotografie tak maj\u00ed zvl\u00e1\u0161tn\u00ed perspektivu \u010dlov\u011bka, kter\u00fd tuto zemi z\u00e1rove\u0148 d\u016fv\u011brn\u011b znal i znovu objevoval. Rozsah v\u00fdstavy je z\u00e1m\u011brn\u00fd. V\u00edce ne\u017e 200 fotografi\u00ed nevytv\u00e1\u0159\u00ed klasick\u00fd v\u00fdb\u011br n\u011bkolika ikonick\u00fdch obraz\u016f, ale proud vizu\u00e1ln\u00ed pam\u011bti. Jednotliv\u00e9 sn\u00edmky se skl\u00e1daj\u00ed do mozaiky lid\u00ed, m\u00edst, ud\u00e1lost\u00ed, p\u0159\u00e1telstv\u00ed, ob\u010dansk\u00fdch postoj\u016f i osobn\u00edch vzpom\u00ednek. Po\u010dtem vystaven\u00fdch fotografi\u00ed se Tom Rimpel za\u0159azuje mezi autory nejrozs\u00e1hlej\u0161\u00edch fotografick\u00fdch v\u00fdstav, jak\u00e9 Artinbox Gallery dosud p\u0159ipravila \u2013 po bok Bohdana Holom\u00ed\u010dka \u010di Jana Lukase. V\u00fdstava TOM RIMPEL \u201980 proto nen\u00ed pouze p\u0159ipom\u00ednkou jednoho fotografa. Je z\u00e1rove\u0148 obrazov\u00fdm archivem n\u011bkolika desetilet\u00ed a sv\u011bdectv\u00edm o \u010dlov\u011bku, kter\u00fd m\u011bl pot\u0159ebu b\u00fdt p\u0159i tom, kdy\u017e se n\u011bco podstatn\u00e9ho odehr\u00e1valo. A fotografovat. Fotografie pro n\u011bj byla zp\u016fsobem, jak nest\u00e1t stranou, jak b\u00fdt p\u0159\u00edtomen a p\u0159\u00edtomn\u00e9 okam\u017eiky uchovat pro pot\u0159ebu n\u00e1s v\u0161echny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

T<\/em><\/strong>he exhibition TOM RIMPEL \u201980 presents an extensive selection from the photographic archive of Tom\u00e1\u0161 Rimpel \u2014 photographer, civic activist, and attentive witness to his time. More than two hundred photographs on display create a multilayered portrait of a man who understood photography not merely as an aesthetic medium, but above all as a vehicle for memory, personal testimony, and civic engagement. Rimpel\u2019s archive is also a distinctive chronicle of Czech society. His attention was naturally drawn to places where things were happening \u2014 to public spaces, demonstrations, and civic gatherings, but also to the worlds of culture and art and to sites associated with historical memory. A significant part of his later work documents civic activism. Rimpel was not a detached observer standing behind the camera. He photographed demonstrations and public gatherings \u2014 including events organised by Milion chvilek pro demokracii (Million Moments for Democracy), KAPUTIN, and other civic initiatives \u2014 as an active participant himself. For him, the camera became a means of expressing a personal stance and a way of preserving the atmosphere of the moment, the faces and gestures of the people whose presence shapes the public life of a society. An important thread running through the exhibition is historical and collective memory. Rimpel repeatedly returned to events and places that connect the past with the present and, by extension, with the future. These include photographs from the Memorial of Silence (Pam\u00e1tn\u00edk ticha) and the Drumming for Bubny (Bubnov\u00e1n\u00ed pro Bubny) event, commemorating the deportation of Prague\u2019s Jewish population and the tragedy of the Holocaust. He was interested not only in the act of remembrance itself, but above all in the people who bring memory back into the present. Culture and art formed another essential part of Rimpel\u2019s photographic world. He photographed exhibitions, cultural events, public figures and friends, creating an extensive visual network of a milieu to which he himself belonged. Alongside major social and historical events, he was equally drawn to the unobtrusive moments of everyday life. It is precisely through the interplay of these different layers that Rimpel\u2019s characteristic visual diary emerges \u2014 immediate, personal, and often highly spontaneous. The exhibition also traces his own life journey. Photographs from the family album, presented in the gallery foyer, reveal a more intimate dimension of his story. At the entrance to the main exhibition hall, visitors encounter travel photographs from the 1970s and 1980s, followed by photographs of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic from the period after 1989. These images capture historical turning points as well as extraordinary moments \u2014 from the events surrounding the Velvet Revolution to the devastating floods of 2002. After emigrating in 1968, Rimpel spent much of his life in Germany, where, among other things, he worked in photojournalism. Following his return to Prague in 2011, he once again became deeply involved in Czech cultural and civic life. His photographs therefore carry the distinctive perspective of someone who knew this country intimately while at the same time rediscovering it. The scale of the exhibition is deliberate. More than 200 photographs do not constitute a conventional selection of a few iconic images; instead, they form a stream of visual memory. Individual photographs come together as a mosaic of people, places, events, friendships, civic attitudes, and personal recollections. In terms of the number of works on display, Tom Rimpel joins the ranks of artists featured in some of the most extensive photographic exhibitions ever presented by Artinbox Gallery \u2014 alongside Bohdan Holom\u00ed\u010dek and Jan Lukas. The exhibition TOM RIMPEL \u201980 is therefore more than a tribute to a single photographer. It is a visual archive spanning several decades and a testimony to a man who felt the need to be there whenever something significant was happening. And to photograph it. For Rimpel, photography was a way of refusing to stand on the sidelines \u2014 a way of being present and of preserving the moments of the present for all of us.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
