Tradovalo se, \u017ee v na\u0161ich zem\u00edch bude dob\u0159e a\u017e tehdy, kdy\u017e bude dcera P\u0159emysla I. zvan\u00e1 rovn\u011b\u017e Ane\u017eka \u010cesk\u00e1, prohl\u00e1\u0161ena za svatou. Sametov\u00e1 revoluce za\u010dala pouh\u00fdch p\u011bt dn\u016f pot\u00e9, co tak pape\u017e Jan Pavel II. u\u010dinil. T\u0159icet let po t\u011bchto ud\u00e1lostech se d\u011bn\u00ed v na\u0161\u00ed zemi ub\u00edr\u00e1 sm\u011brem, kde by se n\u00e1m pomoc svat\u00fdch op\u011bt hodila. Zd\u00e1 se, \u017ee b\u011b\u017en\u00e9 pojistky demokracie, mor\u00e1lky a spravedlnosti v na\u0161\u00ed spole\u010dnosti selh\u00e1vaj\u00ed. Vypad\u00e1 to, \u017ee n\u00e1m u\u017e nezb\u00fdv\u00e1 jin\u00e9, jen se modlit. A um\u00edme to v\u016fbec je\u0161t\u011b? Co jsou modly dne\u0161ka? Kdo a kde jsou svat\u00ed, kte\u0159\u00ed nad n\u00e1mi dr\u017e\u00ed, \u010di mohli \/ m\u011bli by dr\u017eet ochrannou ruku?<\/p>\n

V\u00fdstavou navazujeme na skupinov\u00e9 tematick\u00e9 v\u00fdstavn\u00ed projekty: Kdo l\u017ee, krade (2013) a Peace, please! (2014). Oslovili jsme \u010dty\u0159icet autor\u016f z okruhu galerie, aby se sv\u00fdmi d\u00edly vyj\u00e1d\u0159ili k\u00a0t\u00e9matu duchovn\u00edho odkazu Ane\u017eky \u010cesk\u00e9, kter\u00e1 byla p\u0159ed t\u0159iceti lety svato\u0159e\u010dena, a pota\u017emo i k\u00a0t\u00e9matu, kam jsme se za t\u011bch posledn\u00edch t\u0159icet let jako spole\u010dnost posunuli \u2013 komentujeme tak v\u00fdvoj politick\u00e9, spole\u010densk\u00e9 a duchovn\u00ed atmosf\u00e9ry u n\u00e1s.<\/p>\n

V\u00a0mal\u00e9m s\u00e1le prost\u0159ednictv\u00edm \u010dernob\u00edl\u00fdch fotografick\u00fdch dokument\u016f mapujeme p\u0159edrevolu\u010dn\u00ed obdob\u00ed, kdy prob\u011bhla Pou\u0165 k\u00a0blahoslaven\u00e9 Ane\u017ece \u010cesk\u00e9 a rovn\u011b\u017e bohoslu\u017eba v Chr\u00e1m\u011b Svat\u00e9ho V\u00edta (6. b\u0159ezen 1988). Tuto ud\u00e1lost zachytili na \u010dernob\u00edl\u00fdch fotografi\u00edch Dana Kyndrov\u00e1 a Josef Moucha. Samotn\u00e9 svato\u0159e\u010den\u00ed Ane\u017eky P\u0159emyslovny prob\u011bhlo 12. 11. 1989 v\u00a0\u0158\u00edm\u011b, kde ho na \u010dernob\u00edl\u00fdch sn\u00edmc\u00edch zachytil Franti\u0161ek Sysel. Jeho cyklus t\u0159in\u00e1cti fotografi\u00ed p\u0159ibli\u017euje atmosf\u00e9ru v\u00a0chr\u00e1m\u011b svat\u00e9ho Petra, lidi z\u00a0davu i osobnosti, kter\u00e9 se aktu \u00fa\u010dastnili, jako pape\u017ee Jana Pavla II. nebo Tom\u00e1\u0161e Hal\u00edka. Tuto dokument\u00e1rn\u00ed fotografickou sekci dopl\u0148uje slavn\u00e1 fotografie Jana \u0160ib\u00edka, kter\u00e9 se p\u0159ezd\u00edvalo \u201eMadona se sv\u00ed\u010dkou\u201c. V\u00a0ru\u0161n\u00e9 revolu\u010dn\u00ed dob\u011b z t\u00e9to fotografie n\u011bkdo vyrobil plak\u00e1t, na kter\u00e9m bylo naps\u00e1no: ‚Svat\u00e1 Ane\u017eko, oroduj za n\u00e1s!‘, tyto plak\u00e1ty pak rozv\u011b\u0161el v ulic\u00edch Mal\u00e9 strany. Fotografie se stala jedn\u00edm z vizu\u00e1ln\u00edch symbol\u016f revoluce a aktu\u00e1ln\u011b uv\u00e1d\u00ed i v\u00fdstavu Jana \u0160ib\u00edka: Osudov\u00fd rok 1989 na Starom\u011bstsk\u00e9 radnici a rovn\u011b\u017e stejnojmennou autorovu publikaci.<\/p>\n

Legenda o Ane\u017ece nad\u011bji d\u00e1v\u00e1, ov\u0161em, legendy m\u016f\u017eou m\u00edt i jin\u00e9 vysv\u011btlen\u00ed, ne\u017e to v\u0161eobecn\u011b p\u0159ij\u00edman\u00e9. Tradovalo se, \u017ee v na\u0161ich zem\u00edch bude dob\u0159e a\u017e tehdy, kdy\u017e bude Ane\u017eka \u010cesk\u00e1, prohl\u00e1\u0161ena za svatou. Jin\u00e1 legenda tvrd\u00ed, \u017ee aby bylo opravdu dob\u0159e, mus\u00ed se naj\u00edt ostatky svat\u00e9 Ane\u017eky. Je zde ov\u0161em i jin\u00e1 interpretace. Mo\u017en\u00e1 k\u00a0tomu, aby zde bylo dob\u0159e, je nutno znovuobjevit a p\u0159iv\u00e9st na sv\u011btlo sv\u011bta ne ostatky, ale duchovn\u00ed odkaz, kter\u00fd zde Ane\u017eka \u010cesk\u00e1 zanechala. Mo\u017en\u00e1 jde o to, soust\u0159edit se na to podstatn\u00e9, nemyslet jenom na sebe a sv\u016fj blahobyt, pom\u00e1hat, tam kde je to pot\u0159eba, bojovat s\u00a0t\u00edm zlem, na kter\u00e9 sta\u010d\u00edme. Takto si i sami m\u016f\u017eeme pomoct na cest\u011b ke smyslupln\u00e9mu a \u0161\u0165astn\u00e9mu \u017eivotu. Pomoz si \u010dlov\u011b\u010de, i P\u00e1nb\u016f ti pom\u016f\u017ee. Svat\u00ed budou, doufejme, st\u00e1t u n\u00e1s. Mo\u017en\u00e1 to je ten prav\u00fd odkaz t\u00e9to v\u00fdjime\u010dn\u00e9 \u017eeny, kter\u00e1 se vzdala kr\u00e1lovsk\u00e9ho komfortu, a sv\u016fj \u017eivot zasv\u011btila pomoci pot\u0159ebn\u00fdm.<\/p>\n

\u201cSaint Agnes, All Saints, Pray for Us \u2026\u201d, the 11th<\/sup> thematic group exhibition at the Artinbox Gallery, is dedicated to the 30th<\/sup> anniversary of the consecration of Princess Agnes of the P\u0159emyslid dynasty (*1211, +1282). People used to say that life in our lands would be good only when the daughter of P\u0159emysl Ottokar I, also called Agnes of Bohemia, was canonized. The Velvet Revolution began only five days after Pope John Paul II did so. Thirty years after these events, the situation in our country is moving in a direction where we could once again use a little help from the saints. The common guarantees of democracy, morality and justice in our society seem to be failing. It looks like we have no choice but to pray. And do we still know how? What are the idols of today? Who and where are the saints who hold or should hold a protective hand over us? Or can they?<\/em><\/p>\n

The exhibition is a follow-up to group themed exhibition projects: He Who Lies, Steals (2013) and Peace, Please! (2014). We approached forty artists close to the gallery to tackle the topic of the spiritual legacy of Agnes of Bohemia, who was canonized thirty years ago, and also the topic of how we have changed as a society over the past thirty years \u2013 we are thus commenting on the development of political, social and spiritual atmosphere in our country.<\/em><\/p>\n

In the small hall, the black and white photographic documents map the pre-revolutionary period when the Pilgrimage to the Blessed Agnes of Bohemia and divine service at St. Vitus Cathedral took place (6 March 1988). This event was captured in black and white photographs by Dana Kyndrov\u00e1 and Josef Moucha. The actual canonization of Princess Agnes took place on 12 November 1989 in Rome, captured in black and white by Franti\u0161ek Sysel. His series of thirteen photographs depicts the atmosphere in St. Peter\u2019s Cathedral, the crowd and the people who attended the act, such as Pope John Paul II or Tom\u00e1\u0161 Hal\u00edk. This documentary photo section is complemented by the famous photograph of Jan \u0160ib\u00edk, nicknamed \u201cMadonna with a Candle\u201d. In the busy times of the Revolution, someone made a poster out of this photograph that reads: \u201cSaint Agnes, Pray for Us!\u201d. These posters were then hung on the streets of Mal\u00e1 Strana. The photograph has become one of the visual symbols of the Revolution and currently presents \u0160ib\u00edk\u2019s exhibition The Fateful Year of 1989 at the Old Town Hall as well as the author\u2019s publication of the same name.<\/em><\/p>\n

The series of black and white photographs in the small hall of the gallery is complemented by the mezzotints of Jan H\u00edsek (a series of saints) and Zdirad J. K. \u010cech (a series of seventeen linocuts \u2013 The Legend of St. Agnes).<\/em><\/p>\n

This time we transformed the gallery\u2019s foyer into a shrine dedicated to Agnes and other spiritual beings. The space is dominated by the riveting works of Daniel Pe\u0161ta, Petr Hampl, and Zdirad J. K. \u010cech.<\/em><\/p>\n

In the main, small and lower halls as well as in the gallery club you can compare various depictions of St. Agnes by artists such as Jan Stoss, Martina Chloupa, Ivana \u0160tenclov\u00e1, Sylvie Choisnel, Helena \u010cubov\u00e1, Zdirad \u010cech, Jan H\u00edsek, Patrik H\u00e1bl, Veronika Holcov\u00e1, Jana Kroftov\u00e1\u2013Ba\u010dov\u00e1, Nikola Nov\u00e1kov\u00e1, Suzanne Pastor, Phila Primus, or George Radoj\u010di\u0107.<\/em><\/p>\n

The works of artists such as Patrik Pro\u0161ek, Petr \u017dupn\u00edk, Kate\u0159ina Adamov\u00e1, Patrik H\u00e1bl, Martina Chloupa, Helena Anderlov\u00e1, Helena Lukas, Renata Dr\u00e1bkov\u00e1, or Veronika Drahotov\u00e1 depict other, potentially helpful saints or deal individually with the spiritual level of life and the vision of the world on the other side.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Infant Jesus in the works of Nikola Semot\u00e1nov\u00e1 and Jan Vl\u010dek refers to another famous legend about the miraculous power of the statue kept in the Church of Our Lady Victorious in Mal\u00e1 Strana, which is also referred to by a relic with a QR code made by Semot\u00e1nov\u00e1 as well.<\/em><\/p>\n

The shift from spirituality to the wild waters of the current global socio-political situation, with an emphasis on marketing, commercialism and self-centeredness, is reflected in the works of Milan Kunc, Richard Wiesner, Barbora B\u00e1lkov\u00e1, and Ji\u0159\u00ed Sur\u016fvka.<\/em><\/p>\n

On the other hand, the works of Kry\u0161tof Ho\u0161ek, Kurt Gebauer, Ji\u0159\u00ed Macht and the already mentioned Jan \u0160ib\u00edk refer to the positive and hopeful symbolism of November 17.<\/em><\/p>\n

The legend of St. Agnes gives hope, however, legends may have other explanations than the generally accepted one. People used to say that life in our lands would be good only when Agnes of Bohemia was canonized. Another legend says that if life here should be really good, the remains of St. Agnes must be found first. However, there is another interpretation. Perhaps it is necessary to rediscover and bring to light not the remains, but the spiritual legacy that Agnes of Bohemia left here. Maybe the point is to focus on what is important, not just think about ourselves and our well-being but help where necessary, fight the evil we are capable of fighting. This is how we can help ourselves on the way to a meaningful and happy life. Help yourself, and the Lord will help you. The saints will, hopefully, stand by us. Perhaps this is the true legacy of this exceptional woman who gave up royal comfort and dedicated her life to helping the needy.<\/em><\/p>\n
