Mohli by se tito lid\u00e9 za jist\u00fdch okolnost\u00ed dostat do podobn\u00e9 situace? Mohli bychom se do n\u00ed dostat vy \u010di j\u00e1? Jak zabr\u00e1nit tomu, aby takov\u00e9 situace nastaly? Je z\u00e1rukou vzd\u011bl\u00e1n\u00ed, \u017eivotn\u00ed \u00farove\u0148? Existuj\u00ed v\u016fbec n\u011bjak\u00e9 z\u00e1ruky?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>V\u00fdstavu otev\u0159eme v den 75. v\u00fdro\u010d\u00ed ud\u00e1lost\u00ed zn\u00e1m\u00fdch pod n\u00e1zvem &#8222;Kristallnacht&#8220;. V noci z 9. na 10. 11. 1938 v N\u011bmecku vypukl proti\u017eidovsk\u00fd pogrom. &#8222;K\u0159i\u0161\u0165\u00e1lov\u00e1 noc\u201c se mu \u0159\u00edk\u00e1 podle rozbit\u00fdch oken a v\u00fdloh \u017eidovsk\u00fdch dom\u016f, obchod\u016f, synagog\u2026 Onu noc zahynula t\u00e9m\u011b\u0159 stovka \u017did\u016f, pot\u00e9 jich bylo 30 000 deportov\u00e1no do koncentra\u010dn\u00edch t\u00e1bor\u016f. \u00a0Vhodn\u011bj\u0161\u00edm n\u00e1zvem ne\u017e &#8222;k\u0159i\u0161\u0165\u00e1lov\u00e1 noc\u201c se jev\u00ed term\u00edn \u201e\u0158\u00ed\u0161sk\u00fd pogrom\u201c &#8211; akce\u00a0byly toti\u017e \u0159\u00ed\u0161sk\u00fdmi \u00fa\u0159ady vyprovokovan\u00e9 a podn\u011bcovan\u00e9. Pogrom se rozho\u0159el ve vysp\u011bl\u00e9m, modern\u00edm st\u00e1t\u011b a byl sp\u00e1chan\u00fd p\u0159\u00edslu\u0161n\u00edky n\u00e1roda, jen\u017e se py\u0161nil skv\u011bl\u00fdmi filosofy, spisovateli, skladateli a v\u011bdci. Vyhlazov\u00e1n\u00ed \u010d\u00e1sti obyvatelstva se uskute\u010dnilo za pomoci\u00a0v\u00fddobytk\u016f v\u011bdy a techniky a bylo provedeno s maxim\u00e1ln\u00ed preciznost\u00ed.<\/p>\n<p>Od za\u010d\u00e1tku 2. sv\u011btov\u00e9 v\u00e1lky uplynulo t\u0159i \u010dtvrt\u011b stolet\u00ed \u2013 ta doba je dnes pro v\u011bt\u0161inu z\u00a0n\u00e1s histori\u00ed. Je na\u0161e doba chr\u00e1n\u011bna p\u0159ed p\u016fsoben\u00edm chaosu, zla a nespravedlnost\u00ed posv\u011bcen\u00fdch z\u00a0nejvy\u0161\u0161\u00edch m\u00edst? Zv\u011brstva, jen\u017e se d\u011bly v\u00a0pr\u016fb\u011bhu 2. sv\u011btov\u00e9 v\u00e1lky nebyly v\u00fdjime\u010dn\u00e9 \u2013 pokus\u016f o vyhlazen\u00ed jist\u00fdch spole\u010denstv\u00ed najdeme v\u00a0historii lidstva nespo\u010det. Nem\u016f\u017eeme to pova\u017eovat za hr\u016fznou anom\u00e1lii, naopak \u2013 m\u00e1me hodn\u011b p\u0159edpoklad\u016f se domn\u00edvat, \u017ee se tento jev vyskytuje opakovan\u011b a m\u016f\u017eeme s n\u00edm tud\u00ed\u017e po\u010d\u00edtat i do budoucna. \u00a0Ani na\u0161e spole\u010dnost nen\u00ed chr\u00e1n\u011bna. Navenek je v\u0161e v\u00a0po\u0159\u00e1dku &#8211; neprob\u00edhaj\u00ed tu st\u00e1tn\u00ed pogromy, lid\u00e9 maj\u00ed jin\u00e9 starosti, ne\u017e je ohro\u017een\u00ed spoluob\u010dan\u016f, a varov\u00e1n\u00ed se zdaj\u00ed p\u0159ehnan\u00e1. Ale kdesi na okraji se chaos ji\u017e ohla\u0161uje poni\u010den\u00fdmi h\u0159bitovy, pochody okolo synagog, protiromsk\u00fdmi demonstracemi, vzr\u016fstaj\u00edc\u00ed agresivitou v\u00a0m\u00e9di\u00edch, na internetu.<\/p>\n<p>P\u0159ed n\u011bkolika lety by antisemitsk\u00e9 v\u00fdroky \u010desk\u00e1 spole\u010dnost rychle a jednozna\u010dn\u011b zavrhla. \u00a0\u010ctvrt stolet\u00ed po listopadu 1989, kter\u00fd ukon\u010dil dobu, kdy byli proti\u017eidovsk\u00e9 v\u00fdpady dom\u00e9nou bol\u0161evick\u00fdch k\u00e1dr\u016f, jsou op\u011bt antisemitsk\u00e9 v\u00fdroky bagatelizov\u00e1ny a st\u00e1vaj\u00ed se b\u011b\u017enou sou\u010d\u00e1st\u00ed spole\u010densk\u00e9ho diskursu. P\u0159i pohledu na n\u011bkter\u00e9 internetov\u00e9 diskuse se ve\u0161ker\u00e9 iluze o vysoce vzd\u011blan\u00e9m a kulturn\u00edm lidu na\u0161\u00ed zem\u011b rozpou\u0161t\u011bj\u00ed ve smr\u0161ti \u0161iroce sd\u00edlen\u00fdch v\u00fdlev\u016f nen\u00e1visti v\u016f\u010di men\u0161in\u00e1m, nejv\u00edce op\u011bt v\u016f\u010di \u017did\u016fm a Rom\u016fm. \u00a0Adam B. Barto\u0161 &#8211; autor \u0159ady proti\u017eidovsk\u00fdch v\u00fdpad\u016f, pomluv, ur\u00e1\u017eek, seznam\u016f nep\u0159\u00e1tel a paranoidn\u00edch konstrukc\u00ed, dok\u00e1zal ovlivnit volbu prezidenta\u00a0\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0 Zeman\u016fv t\u00fdm informace z Barto\u0161ov\u00fdch text\u016f vyu\u017e\u00edval. Paradoxn\u011b z\u00a0antisemitismu obvinil Karla Schwarzenberga a jeho man\u017eelku \u2013 pr\u00fd v s\u00eddle, kde pob\u00fdv\u00e1, dosud vis\u00ed obrazy s h\u00e1kov\u00fdmi k\u0159\u00ed\u017ei a hajluj\u00edc\u00edmi lidmi. Tento agiln\u00ed bloger v\u0161ak u n\u00e1s nen\u00ed jedin\u00fdm aktivn\u00edm antisemitou. Ekonomick\u00e1, spole\u010densk\u00e1 a mor\u00e1ln\u00ed krize se prohlubuje a p\u0159ib\u00fdv\u00e1 autor\u016f a text\u016f, za n\u011b\u017e by se nemusel styd\u011bt ani Julius Streicher, nacistick\u00fd pohlav\u00e1r a vydavatel propagandistick\u00e9ho bulv\u00e1ru Der St\u00fcrmer. Ostatn\u011b Der St\u00fcrmer op\u011bt vych\u00e1z\u00ed na internetu a i v\u00a0\u010de\u0161tin\u011b! Jestli\u017ee se dnes \u0161\u00ed\u0159\u00ed slovn\u00ed \u0161p\u00edna stejn\u011b jako p\u0159ed \u0158\u00ed\u0161sk\u00fdm pogromem, je nutn\u00e9, aby ti, kdo maj\u00ed sv\u011bdom\u00ed a odvahu, odk\u00e1zali \u0161i\u0159itele nen\u00e1visti na jejich m\u00edsto &#8211; mimo ve\u0159ejn\u00fd prostor. Antisemitismus pota\u017emo rasizmus nen\u00ed n\u00e1zor, je to zlo\u010din!<\/p>\n<p>V\u00fdstavou STARS chceme upozornit na smutnou aktu\u00e1lnost hr\u016fz holocaustu, na sou\u010dasnou hrozbu antisemitizmu a pota\u017emo rasizmu. Pt\u00e1me se: Dalo se holocaustu a jemu podobn\u00fdm ud\u00e1lostem v\u00a0historii lidstva zabr\u00e1nit? Margarett Bourke-White) po\u0159\u00edzen\u00fdch po osvobozen\u00ed koncentra\u010dn\u00edch t\u00e1bor\u016f (nap\u0159. Buchenwald). \u00a0Tzv. Auschwitz album bylo nalezeno n\u00e1hodou v r.\u00a01945 v\u00a0kredenci v kas\u00e1rn\u00e1ch SS v n\u011bmeck\u00e9m t\u00e1bo\u0159e Nordhausen-Dora b\u00fdvalou v\u011bzenkyn\u00ed, kter\u00e1 se na n\u011bkter\u00fdch z\u00e1b\u011brech poznala. Album pat\u0159\u00ed k\u00a0v\u00fdjime\u010dn\u00fdm doklad\u016fm dokumentuj\u00edc\u00edm provoz t\u00e1bor\u016f, nic podobn\u00e9ho se v\u00a0takov\u00e9m rozsahu nezachovalo. Obsahuje 193 fotografi\u00ed, autory jsou s\u00a0nejv\u011bt\u0161\u00ed pravd\u011bpodobnost\u00ed Ernst Hoffmann a\/anebo Berhard Walter, jen\u017e m\u011bli na starosti portr\u00e9tov\u00e1n\u00ed v\u011bz\u0148\u016f. Album zachycuje ma\u010farsk\u00e9 transporty na za\u010d\u00e1tku leta 1944, v\u00fdstup z\u00a0transportu, selek\u010dn\u00ed proces nastoupen\u00fdch v\u011bz\u0148\u016f a pr\u00e1ci s\u00a0mno\u017estv\u00edm \u0161atstva a bato\u017ein. Co \u010din\u00ed toto album je\u0161t\u011b v\u00fdjime\u010dn\u011bj\u0161\u00ed, je n\u00e1lez dal\u0161\u00edho alba ze stejn\u00e9ho t\u00e1bora, jen\u017e byl soukrom\u00fdm osobn\u00edm \u201epam\u00e1te\u010dn\u00edm\u201c albem d\u016fstojn\u00edka SS a z\u00e1stupce velitele t\u00e1bora Karla-Friedricha H\u00f6ckera a jen\u017e je unik\u00e1tn\u00edm sv\u011bdectv\u00edm o \u017eivote person\u00e1lu tohoto koncentra\u010dn\u00edho t\u00e1bora. Bylo po\u0159\u00edzen v\u00a0t\u00e9 sam\u00e9 dob\u011b jako tzv. Auschwitz album a na ve\u0159ejnost se dostalo a\u017e v\u00a0r. 2007! The victim\u2019s faces have been digitally replaced with the faces of famous \u201cstars\u201d \u2013 people who are symbols of success and the fulfillment of human potential. Under certain circumstances, could these people have ended up in a similar situation? Could it have been you or me? How can we prevent such situations from happening? Is education or standard of living a safeguard? Are there any safeguards?<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition is being opened on the 75th anniversary of the events known as \u201cKristallnacht\u201d. During the night from the 9th to the 10th of November 1938, an anti-Jewish pogrom erupted in Germany. The \u201cNight of Broken Glass\u201d received its name from the broken windows of Jewish homes, shops, and synagogues\u2026 That night, nearly a hundred Jews were killed and some 30,000 who were arrested were later sent to concentration camps. A more fitting name than \u201cKristallnacht\u201d would be \u201cReichspogrom\u201d, since the pogrom was provoked and encouraged by German officials. It erupted in a modern, advanced country and was committed against members of a nation that boasted outstanding philosophers, writers, composers, and scientists. The extermination of this population was carried out with the help of modern science and technology, and was performed with the utmost exactitude.<\/p>\n<p>It has been three quarters of a century since the start of World War II \u2013 for most of us today, this era is ancient history. Is our own era safe from the effects of chaos, evil, and injustice consecrated from the highest places? The atrocities that were committed during World War II were no exception. Since human history contains countless attempts at exterminating certain groups of people, it cannot be called a horrible anomaly \u2013 in fact, there is plenty of reason to believe that this phenomenon appears repeatedly, meaning that we can expect it to occur in the future as well. Not even our society is safe. On the surface, all is in order: There are no state-guided pogroms and people have other worries than threatening their fellow citizens, so any warnings seem exaggerated. But on the margins, the coming chaos announces itself through damaged cemeteries, marches leading past synagogues, anti-Roma protests, and a growing level of aggressiveness in the media and on the internet.<\/p>\n<p>Just a few years ago, Czech society would have quickly and clearly rejected any open expressions of anti-Semitism. A quarter century after the Velvet Revolution, which ended an era during which anti-Jewish attacks were the domain of communist party cadres, anti-Semitic statements are again played down and are becoming a regular part of social discourse. A glance at certain online discussion forums and their mass of hate-filled diatribes against minorities (as always, Jews and Roma) should dispel any illusions that we are a highly educated and cultured nation. Adam B. Barto\u0161 \u2013 known for his many anti-Jewish diatribes, slanderous comments, insults, enemy lists, and paranoid constructions \u2013 even managed to influence the presidential election: Milo\u0161 Zeman\u2019s team used information from Barto\u0161\u2019s writings that, paradoxically, accused Karel Schwarzenberg and his wife of anti-Semitism. (Barto\u0161 claimed that her family estate contained pictures of swastikas and people making \u201cSieg Heil\u201d gestures, but in fact this \u201cestate\u201d hasn\u2019t belonged to her family for 300 years.) (<a rel=\"nofollow nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ostrava-online.cz\/tema\/tema-tak-tohle-uz-je-moc-na-hrade-schwarzenbergovy-manzelky-se-hajluje\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.ostrava-online.cz\/tema\/tema-tak-tohle-uz-je-moc-na-hrade-schwarzenbergovy-manzelky-se-hajluje<\/a>). This agile blogger is hardly our only anti-Semite, however. The economic, social, and moral crisis is deepening, and so we see more and more authors and texts that not even Nazi bigwig Julius Streicher, publisher of the propagandistic tabloid Der St\u00fcrmer, would have been ashamed of. In fact, Der St\u00fcrmer is today published online, even in Czech! When verbal garbage is being spread just as it was prior to the Reichspogrom, then people of conscience and courage must put the disseminators of hatred in their place \u2013 outside the public realm. Anti-Semitism and racism are not an opinion, but a crime!<\/p>\n<p>With the current exhibition, we hope to call attention to the sad fact that the horrors of the Holocaust remain a current issue, and that anti-Semitism and racism represent a real threat today. We ask: Could the Holocaust and similar events in human history have been prevented? Is it possible that similar situations must repeat themselves in human history?<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Pavel Maria Smejkal (* 1957, Ostrava).<br \/>\nSejkal graduated from the Ko\u0161ice Veterinary University in 1983 and received an MA from the Institute of Creative Photography at Opava\u2019s Silesian University in 2009. Self-employed since 1989, he today works as a photographer, graphic artist, and curator. He is currently studying for a doctorate from ICP.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>On the origins of the historical photographs used in this series:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>STARS uses photographs from the so-called Auschwitz Album, plus images taken by American military photographers (including Margaret Bourke-White) taken after the liberation of concentration camps such as Buchenwald. The Auschwitz Album was found by chance in 1945 in a dresser in the SS barracks in the German Nordhausen-Dora camp by a former prisoner, who recognized herself in some of the photographs. The album provides exceptional documentary evidence of the camps\u2019 operations, since nothing similar of such scope survived the war. It contains 193 photographs probably taken by Ernst Hoffmann and\/or Bernhard Walter, who were responsible for taking prisoners\u2019 ID pictures. The album shows the arrival of the Hungarian transports in early summer 1944, the people emerging from the trains, the selection process, and the processing of large amounts of clothing and luggage. What makes this album even more exceptional today is the discovery of another album from the same camp. This album, which offers a unique witness of the life of the camp personnel, had been the personal album of SS officer and the camp\u2019s adjunct commandant Karl-Friedrich H\u00f6cker. The pictures were taken around the same time as those from the Auschwitz Album, but the album was not made public until 2007!
